The LA Times reports that Walt Disney Studios has partnered with Universal Pictures on the project, and that the movie will be directed by Michael Bay.
Disney is already known for releasing movies on a wide variety of platforms, including streaming, VOD, home entertainment and digital platforms, but Disney has not done this before.
The first such project to do so was “Finding Dory,” which was released on VOD and Amazon Prime Video earlier this year.
This would be the first time that Disney would release a movie directly from Universal Pictures.
Disney’s acquisition of Universal Pictures was reportedly approved by the boards of both companies, but there’s still no word on when it will begin filming.
